Jailyn was in the stars. They were twinkling so brightly they were blinding, but she needn´t to squint. She was prancing through space, no helmet, no suit. She was alive, full of wonder. It was an amazing feeling.
Except it was only a dream. Jailyn had fallen asleep in the middle of mythology class. She drowsily opened her eyes. With her blurry vision, she glanced at the clock, 2:47 P.M. There were still thirteen more minutes until the end of day bell. She could hear Mrs. Grimm blabbing on and on about how the elements kept the balance of the mythological world.
"But, of course, it´s just the mythological world," she explained. "It´s not real." Holly, my sister, raised her hand.
"Then why are we even learning this? If it´s not real, why does it matter?"
"A long time ago, people told stories of dragons, fairies, and other creatures. Many of those stories ended up being a lesson to never go in the forest alone at night, or always respect your parents. But people started to believe those stories and retold them again and again. That´s what made them well-known."
´That´s great then!´ Jailyn thought. ´If something´s not real, there shouldn´t be homework!´ But she was wrong. Her thoughts of just hanging out with Sophia and Holly at the park were interrupted by Mrs. Grimm.
"The main elements are fire, air, and water. Your homework is to find out 3 other elements that I did not mention today. If you..." Mrs. Grimm was interrupted by the loud clang of the end of day bell.
"Class dismissed!" Everyone grabbed their books and ran out the door.
Jailyn and Holly met outside Mrs. Grimm´s classroom, room 117. It was right across the hall from room 119, the Forbidden Room. If they went into the Forbidden Room, they could get expelled. It was best to stay well away from whatever was in there.
