This book will be rewritten sometime in the future. Expect a few inconsistencies between the current chapters (as this chapter was the only one updated, the rest are from the original writing of this book on StoriesCity). This chapter, as well as the others will be rewritten with a (hopefully) better plot, character development, etc.
Two little fox cubs were born. Their soft, thin fur barely covered their bodies. But little did they know that before they could breathe their first, they were abducted by a scientist, leaving their mother vixen to weep.
The two were taken to a laboratory where they were operated on. This was part of a long project that the scientists had been undertaking in the hope of successfully changing an animal´s species.
Marcia, the older red fox with a slightly darker coat, was separated from Fern, the younger cub, to be tested on. The scientists inserted some DNA from an arctic fox, trying to alter the species. They slipped the DNA into an intricate and fragile line...and it worked. The Marcia´s fur became a snowy white.
Both of the little cubs, though, had been injected with a back-up plan. Two powers to help them when in danger.
A month passed, slowly.
The two foxes slipped out of their captivities, Fern tearing the cage down with a strength she couldn´t recognize, and Marcia simply waking up outside of the cage. Lingering above Marcia was a ferret whom had pressed the ´Release from cages´ button in the scientist´s control room. Each experiment who survived pelted from the laboratory, running for their lives.
Marcia and Fern found each other and ran neck-to-neck. They could barely see because of all the animals surrounding them, running in the same direction...escaping the clutches of the humans.
The scientists knew how risky escaped subjects could be, so they began the chase. Hours of running restlessly, with no water or food. Some plainly gave up and fell face-first onto the ground, re-captured.
But the stronger ones kept running; Marcia and Fern.
Soon, they felt a feeling. A strong one, which compelled them to stop and nourish themselves. Slurping up as much water as they could, and then wolfing down some blueberries, the foxes began a new quest to find a home.
They didn´t know that a shady-looking silver cross fox had been following them the entire time; right from the escape to now.
The fox approached them silently. So silently, that he surprised them when he leaped before them. He didn´t speak or make a sound, but the two young vixens sure did. They screeched in alarm. "Who are you?" Marcia screamed, pushing herself closer to the ground in fear. Fern mimicked her older sister´s actions.
"Don´t worry," the fox began, lifting a paw. "I´m Dark."
As soon as he uttered ´dark´ a pretty red fox pranced out of some nearby bushes. "My name is Cherry." she said sincerely, dipping her head. Marcia and Fern were not familiar with the actions, as these were the first other foxes they had ever met and talked to. "I-I´m Marcia, and this is F-Fern." Marcia trembled, not sure of how to look at the situation.
"We know that," Cherry said, stretching. "But Marcia, your true name is now Snow."
Marcia, now Snow, looked up at Cherry. "How can that be?" she asked, looking down at her little white paws.
Dark pushed Cherry aside. "We´re your parents, that´s how. Now follow us." he ordered, turning around and padding off. The two sisters exchanged surprising glances. "So these are our parents..." mumbled Fern inaudibly.
That was how it began - strangely, but it was a beginning.
