A Strange Dream
"Mom, why did we have to move?" I whined while helping mother unload the boxes. "Honey, you know why." she replied, opening another box. "I know, I know. But it´s always about dad and his work. He´s almost never home. Why can´t he just take the time off to spend time with us instead of volunteering to work extra?"
"Because we need the money. Look, I know you hate it, but he has to work. You know we wouldn´t be here if he didn´t. Besides, his new job might allow him to come home more often."
"I hope so. But new jobs usually seem to just keep him away more and more."
We didn´t say anything else after that. Once we were done unloading mother´s boxes, I went upstairs to unload mine. I went downstairs when I was finished and sat at the dinner table. I dug into the spaghetti that I guessed mom made awhile ago because it was a bit cold. Wiping my face clean, I got up and put the now-empty plate into the sink and washed it. Mother was already in bed, so I walked back upstairs into my room and changed into my pajamas before jumping onto my bed and falling fast asleep.
That night, I had the strangest dream. It was about a forest. But not a normal forest. Or, at least, it didn´t feel normal. I was just walking down the dark path when my ears started ringing and my eyesight became blurry. The last thing I saw- or, thought I saw, anyway- was a tall, faceless man in a really nice suit. Then I blacked out. Except, when I did, I didn´t see pure black. I saw a strange circle with x going through it. I woke up before the dream- or was it a nightmare?- could continue. As I was leaving my room, I could´ve sworn I saw the same faceless man out my window behind some trees, "staring" at me.
