My name is Scarlet Young. I am twelve years old and am an orphan. But, I am no ordinary girl. About a week ago my parents died in a car accident. We were heading to the grocery store when suddenly a black van with extremely dark tinted windows drove into our lane, crashing against our car. I heard the sound of screeching, metal against metal. The idiot in the van kept driving into us, and just would not veer away.
After about two minutes of that the driver of the van pushed harder and our car flipped right over. We were on a highway bridge when this happened, when we flipped, we went to the road right under us. Let me just say, I have no idea how I am alive. Anyways, my mother, father, unknown sister, and Iwere in the car
She is “unknown” because no one could know about her. In the part of California where we lived you could only have one child. But my mother and father did not listen. I kind of had a feeling that my parents knew the person that did this, because right before we fell they said, “If you survive after this, run away. Get some supplies from the house and try to find your way to Aunt Mary’s. You are a witch, your wand is at home under a loose floorboard under your bed, Aunt Mary will tell you everything.”
So I listened to them. I went home and got some supplies. Clothes, food, and money. I also went under my bed as they had instructed and got the box labeled “Pine wood and phoenix feather.’’ I think it was enough. I was deciding on how long I would stay at the house. The day that I survived was Saturday, June 5. The next day was Sunday, of course. I want to see Opal. Opal is Asian, with black/ brown hair and electric blue eyes. Opal is my best friend. We have been friends since kindergarten. We went to Hallows Stump Elementary. Now we go to Elwood Middle School. Well, I guess I won’t be going to school anymore. At least, not for quite a long time.
Anyways, back to the story. On Sunday, I started packing. I had to get food, money, and clothes… you know... basic supplies. I do not know how long it will take me to get to South Carolina. Nor do I know how long I will stay at my house.
I wonder where I will sleep. I am so worried. I am a tomboy so that means I like to stay outside and like things that boys do. Like climbing trees, and playing in dirt. Trees to me, probably not you… are the most comfortable spots outside. So I could easily sleep there.
I wonder who the driver was. I don’t know who would do something like that. They obviously were trying to kill me. But who would do that! Ugh! Well, their plan didn´t work, thank God. What would happen if they found me? I could be killed! I’m scared, but not scared. I’m confused!
