Netgear router connected but no internet
If you are having difficulties while accessing the internet through Netgear router then you need to take some troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue completely. Often, it becomes a dreaded moment, if your device is connected to WiFi but there does not exist the internet.
To fix Netgear router’s “no internet issue”, we have listed few troubleshooting measures that you should try -
a. Restart Devices -
First of all, you have to restart all devices that are currently connected to the Netgear router. No matter if you have tried this for a couple of times, just give a fresh restart to all devices. A good reboot can fix network issues as well as network problems, if there exists. Once all devices are reset, connect them properly to Netgear router.
b. Check router’s lights -
It might be possible that the problem lies in the device itself and you are wandering here & there. Check the “internet light” of Netgear router and make sure it is working. Also, make sure there is no unusual behavior such an extraordinary light flickering etc. Ideally, Netgear DSL light should be on and WiFi indicator light should blink.
c. Use built-in troubleshooter -
If the internet is fine from ISP side and working on at least one device then definitely there is some problem with WiFi adapter of your device. In such situations, you need to use built-in troubleshooter.
For Widows users – Move to the taskbar and then press right click on Network icon. Choose “Troubleshoot Problems” option and immediately after that windows will automatically look for problems and automatically fix them. If due to any reason your Windows can’t fix the issue then atleast it will tell you what is the exact cause behind this.
d. Flush DNS -
If your internet is not working then there might exist DNS cache conflicts. In such scenarios, you need to flush DNS. Go to Windows Start menu and type “cmd” in it. Then open Command Prompt as an administrator. Type “ipconfig/flushdns” at the Command Prompt screen and hit Enter.
e. Modify the router’s wireless mode -
If you are getting internet access via the ethernet cable but not through WiFi then there exists a communication barrier between devices. Usually, wireless mode is set as 802.11 b/g/n and it works fine for most of the people. But sometimes, network issues occur when old devices are not compatible with this mode. To fix this issue, you need to identify router details. For this, open Command Prompt and type “ipconfig” in it. Check out the default gateway as this is your router’s IP address. Enter that IP address into the address bar and login into the Netgear router. Once you log in, look for “wireless mode” under “wireless settings”. After that, just change the wireless mode to “802.11b” and then save the entire changes.
f. Reset router -
This is a little harsh option but in various cases, the router’s technical problems get resolved by resetting the router to factory settings. After resetting Netgear router, you have to again password-protect your router as well as modify basic settings as per your need. Although you can reset Netgear router through settings we are suggesting you an easier method. Find the reset button on your device and then press the button inside by using a sharp paper-clip. Hold this position for 15 seconds and then router light will blink. Once your Netgear router restarts, you will be able to connect to the internet.
